The waterway is also a major migratory bird flyway and provides great birding and hunting opportunities. Lake George/St Marys River also provides boating access to Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Sugar Island is accessed by a year round almost continuous car ferry. As far as Islands go this is likely the easiest to access by vehicle in the state. A new (2022) pier dock was built to protect the shoreline habitat and extends out to the new (Aug22) 6ft wide floating dock for fantastic water and boating access. The land to either side of the cabin is undeveloped adding to the seclusion.
